KALAVERAZTEKAH "El Despertar De Los Tiempos" Review

Mexican Aztec Progressive Death Metal band Kalaveraztekah just released its debut album El Despertar De Los Tiempos ("The awakening of times"). Hailing from Mexico, the band blends prehispanic folklore music with a progressive death metal. The concept explores the cosmogony of Anahuakah (Mexhikah) with the intention to pay tribute to ancestral beliefs and aztec heritage. This generous 13-tracks album has been masterised at Woodshed Studios by V. Santura (Dark Fortress) and the production is powerful and effective.

Kalaveraztekah mixes different influences, an old school death metal reminding Death sometimes and also more modern metal with low-tuned guitars. The lead guitarist has some tasty licks to deliver ("El Ritual de Xipetotek (Tlakaxipewalixtli)", "Tonantzin Kowatlikue (Madre de La Tierra)"). The bass is brought to the fore with interesting melodic lines and the drummer can be fast. The vocals are in spanish and pretty convincing.

Coherency through all the records comes with many instrumental tribal sections featuring folk instruments, flutes, ritual chants, percussions (on " Ilwika Tonatiuh (Sol en Movimiento)").

An interesting and rich album that you can listen in entirety below
